Kick Start Pizza Tonight!

Some pizzalicious friends of mine, the folks at Pizza Tonight need a kickstart ! Check it out! They only have eight days left! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/861973379/pizza-tonight-you-bake-or-we-make-seriously-good-f Their prizes and freebees for donating are awesome and include things like free pizza, private pizza parties, persistent pizza purchaser punch cards, etc! Support the little guys and make a donation NOW! Here are some of the intended uses for their Kickstarter fund: Source more of their ingredients locally! They have been lucky to source so many of their ingredients locally, from Olli Salumeria to Dave and Dee's Mushrooms to Sausage Craft .  This past market season, they connected with even more local businesses and farms, working beside them week after week, and they'd like to see them represented on their menus! Expand the business locally and regionally. Pizza Tonight kits, dough, sauce, cheese, and meatballs have been received so well l...

Blow Toad - Richmond, VA

Last Friday, some friends and I went to a preview of Blow Toad, Richmond's first and only coal fired pizza place. This is the new restaurant of two-time nominee for the James Beard Award and lauded local restaurateur Jimmy Sneed.   Sneed has had his hands in several well-known and award-winning restaurants including Richmond's The Frog and the Redneck (now closed) and Chicago's SugarToad .  He also is co-owner of the acclaimed veg-friendly restaurant and pizzeria Fresca on Addison with his daughter. The chef de cuisine is Nikoli Creatore, a veteran of Balliceaux which has always had an exceptionally creative and delicious menu. Naturally with all these accolades I was expecting some awesome pizza but what we got fell far short of my expectations.  At this very generous, FREE preview the team at BlowToad were dishing up pizza, samples of entrees and appetizers and dessert. The waitress came to take our order for two pies and three ap/entree samples and drinks...

Protest powered by pizza.

Photos: Ian's Pizza on State St. www.ianspizza.com Ian's on Twitter Ian's on Facebook  For over a week union supporters in Wisconsin have been protesting outside the capital in an attempt to protect public employees from a bill that would eliminate their collective bargaining rights. Although union representatives have agreed to the financial concessions Gov. Scott Walker (R) wants in exchange for keeping their collective bargaining rights Walker has remained unwilling to compromise on the bill and told the local Fox News affiliate that "We're willing to take this as long as it takes because in the end we're doing the right thing."  Tens of thousands of people have made their way to the capital and union supporters from Wisconsin and the rest of the country have flooded the streets of Madison in protest.  Those people are hungry for dignity, justice and pizza.   Less than one block away from the state capital is Ian's Pizza By the Slice on State S...

Best Pizza in Richmond

Lots of my pizzalicious friends have been pointing out that Richmond.com currently has a poll on their site for the best pizza in Richmond. However, it has also come to our attention that they have left out several notable pizzerias, namely Jo-Jo's, Sette and Tarantino's.  Here on Pizzalicious we have tried to come up with a more comprehensive list of  beloved pizzerias in order to find out who is REALLY the best. vote away! Leave a comment with any joints we missed.

Pizzalicious status updates.

Victoria Aracri Deroche is a pizza fanatic from Richmond and blogger/business owner of Pizza Tonight RVA Sean Taylor is an actor, comedian and pizza fanatic from New York who also blogs and commits to eating pizza every day for the month of October (National Pizza Month). Of course Paulie Gee's is one of  Brooklyn's newest Neapolitan style pizzerias owned by the one and only Paulie Gee . <3 Some people are just so silly.

The Wayside Center is Pizzalicious!

I have spent the better part of the last month or so raising money for the Wayside Center For Popular Education . As part of their first annual fundraiser, The Wayside Cup the Center invited people to form teams and find creative ways to raise money and then participate in a field day event. The team with the most points would win. I formed Team Totally Awesome, and I have to say we were off to a great start. As team captain I pledged to raise $1000 and we made over $500 at our first fund raising event- a Cut-A-Thon hosted by the lovely ladies at Salon Bleu in Richmond. Next we had a very successful bake sale at the South of the James Farmer's Market. We parked our bake sale boat right next to our friends and teammates from Root Force Collective Farm. It was another success and that night we celebrated at the benefit show where B.Ultra & Basic (pictured), Pixeltank , and El Radon played their amazing music. Some very skilled hula hoopers from RVA HoOp Lovers also perform...

Richmond just got more Pizzalicious!

I want to introduce my pal Melissa to you. She is one pizzalicious babe and I know she will have a lot of great posts and amazing photos to add to this blog. Welcome Melizza! (See what I did there?)  We're so glad to have you on board. -Lauren My name is Melissa, and I am a friend of Lauren’s who is going to be contributing to this blog from time to time. I was giddy when she asked me; I hadn't thought about starting my own pizza blog but I am so thrilled to document my adventures on this site! I never ate pizza until a few years ago, as I was not able to stomach cheese. Thankfully my tastes changed and I’ve been pleased to have some really amazing pizza in Richmond, as well as other parts of the country. I don’t cook, but I love baking, especially bread, so pizza-making came naturally to me. I like to adjust ingredients and rises with the dough to get different flavors and try different temperatures to see what gives me the most pleasing crust. I recently got married an...
